WRITING A STORY


    Choose a picture from page 20 to explain how you ended up there. Your story must end with the following sentence:
´Every time I look back on it all I have are horrible memories.´

REMEMBER!

 

- In the first paragraph the idea is to attract the readers´ interest and 

stimulate their imagination.

- Nobody likes a long first paragraph.

- Use different tenses to refer to the past (Simple Past, Past Continuous, Past Perfect).

- Sequence the events by using: At the beginning / As soon as / First / Then / Afterwards / Finally / In the end

- Use vivid words and phrases. 

- Exaggerate the sentences that have a negative or positive connotation. Examples: I was petrified / I stood there speechless / Even the thought of +ing made me feel sick / It was was absolutely freezing.  

 - Adverbs play a fundamental role. Example: Nervously, we walked back.  (The effect is different)

- One sentence in direct speech can be used for variety and interest. Example: ´I´m very glad that´s over!´ said Sarah as we made the long drive back home.
